English Language Development (ELD)
Year-Long Elective
Prerequisites: Placement based on ELPAC scores (Taken in the Spring)
Course Description:
This course helps English learners improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in academic and social settings. Instruction is tailored to language proficiency levels based on the English Language Development standards. It builds vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills, and includes targeted preparation for the ELPAC assessment to support academic success.
- ELD 1A - Newcomers who have been in the country for less than 2 years.
- ELD 1B - Students at the Emerging level of language proficiency.
- ELD 1/2 - Students who score an average overall score of a 1 or a 2 on the previous year’s ELPAC test.
- ELD 3 - Students who score an average overall score of a 3 on the previous year’s ELPAC test.
- ELD 4 - Students who score an average overall score of a 3 on the previous year’s ELPAC test.
